Weekend report 0007

nailbiter-vol-2-bloody-hands-tp_59e0dae728These days, it’s all Nailbiter. Finished Vol. 1 (“There Will Be Blood”) in one day, currently enjoying Vol. 2 (“Bloody Hands”), and looking forward to reading the succeeding volumes. Serial killers and comics, man. Welcome to my world.

So I missed several days last week, so what? There are really times when writing about how my day went seems like too much effort. A kind of dumb self-imposed pressure I can do without. Why force myself to write, when I can enjoy some additional free time instead? So I said fuck it and that was that. Who gives a shit, anyway?

Speaking of free time: I just had a three-day weekend where I just kicked back and relaxed after three long weeks of grueling shift and equally grueling commute. I don’t expect things to be better now, but at least I had that period of rest to nurse myself back to fighting condition. Hell yes, mentally and physically I am now ready for whatever curve ball life decides to throw at me.

And so much for that. During my three-day break from work I did the following (aside from reading Nailbiter, that is): started watching You on Netflix, caught up on the latest True Detective and Gotham seasons,  watched BlackKKlansman and Gimme Danger, and continued reading Mick Wall’s biography of Metallica. There was also a trip to the mall with the girls, and to the gym with the wifey. For all this I had to skip Komiket at ETON Centris. Still, it was a great weekend, all in all.

When arrows fly

529690._sx1280_ql80_ttd_In Generations: The Archers, Kate Bishop and Clint Barton, the two Hawkeyes, find themselves on an island where some of Marvel’s most notorious marksmen are on a Hunger Games type of survival game. Since Clint doesn’t know her and is still wearing his old tacky costume, Kate assumes she’s mysteriously transported to the past by someone. Forging a friendship, the two work together to determine what the hell is going on, and who is behind it. They find the mastermind, but so do the other marksmen, including the homicidal maniac Bullseye, and that’s when the arrows and knives and swords start flying.

It’s a crazy-ass fun story, and I like it.

Thursday: woke up, went to work, got busy, went home. Watched episodes 2 and 3 of True Detective season 3 to decompress and thought the series is doing good so far. I hope it will not be like season 2 which, despite its stellar cast, is forgettable at best. For the third season I am putting my faith in Mahershala Ali.

Before sleeping, I pre-ordered comics for next week at Filbar’s. It’s an interesting bunch (Heroes in Crisis #5 and the first issue of Fight Club 3, among them) and it’ll cost me big, but so what?

Daydreams of snow & winter

kumiks

Got these as belated birthday gifts from an ex-workmate today. I’m not really comfortable receiving gifts, ditto giving them (not because I’m a selfish bastard but because I fear the recipient won’t like them), but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate such acts of generosity — especially if they’re in the form of cool back issues such as these.

Another highlight of the day: hanging out on our balcony in the gathering dusk, munching junk food and sipping canned pineapple juice. The cold weather made me embrace myself and brought to mind images of snow and winter in distant lands. Since the book I’m currently reading deals a lot about migration — the how’s and why’s and, more importantly, the how much — I thought, “Hmmm.” And it’s not only because of my curiosity about snow.

I was getting lonely, so I abandoned the fantasy, fixed myself 3-in-1 coffee, and watched the pilot episode of True Detective S03.
