Thursday snikt

feb100624_1._sx360_ql80_ttd_For today’s comics I wanted something fierce and violent. Blood, guts, the works. Throw in some spit and grit for good measure. I thought a Wolverine comics would fit the bill. So I grabbed Vol.1 of Wolverine: Weapon X (“The Adamantium Men”), threw myself to bed, and pretended the world outside didn’t exist. Got as far as issue #3 before my body gave in to sleep.

Today was the exact opposite of yesterday. Work was slightly light, and commuting home was a breeze. There was still light when I arrived in Antipolo, though it was fading fast. When I emerged from a roadside eatery where I had dinner of cheap bacon (if that was really bacon), rice and soft drink, getting my eardrums brutally assaulted by corny music about love and longing all throughout, full night had descended.

At home I found my daughter having the blues. Her vacationing three-year-old cousin, with whom she is very fond of, returned to Hong Kong, and for her it was such an emotional blow. I tried to comfort her best I could, but I have no idea if it worked. Then she went online and I picked up my comics and that was that. Some dad I am.

Start of Hell Week is… hellish

new_avengers_vol_2_1Got started on Brian Michael Bendis’ run of New Avengers today. Luke Cage, Spider-Man, Iron Fist, Ms. Marvel, Wolverine — what’s not to like? I hope the story arc is as good as the cast. Bendis is kind of a hit-or-miss guy for me.

Day One of Hell Week — busy as fuck in the morning, what with senatorial radio interviews and Pepe Smith croaking, not to mention all the presscons and statements about yesterday’s twin bombings in a Jolo cathedral. It almost made me want to quit, troop to a nearby fancy bar, order a tequila, and drunk-flirt with Krey Trajano on Instagram.

But the afternoon was a different beast. Desk reinforcements came and I withdrew to the backseat where I stayed until it was time to punch out and call it a day.

Dropped by my mother’s place before going home. She was in a bright mood and not complaining about anything except the cold weather. At least there was that.

Tomorrow I face Day Two.

Weekend report 0003

728906._sx360_ql80_ttd_With me still in cost-cutting mode, I pre-ordered only one comic book this week: Marvel Comics Presents #1. It’s an anthology, and I dig anthologies, so why not? The first story features Wolverine fighting a demon summoned by a gypsy woman facing execution by the Nazis. Then it was followed by two one-and-done’s — one has Namor in WWII having moral dilemma over the Allied forces’ intention to nuke Japan to oblivion, while the other has Captain America bonding with a teenage daredevil over motorcycles and dreams. It’s a good issue, but whether or not I’ll pre-order #2 is still a big question mark.

Had another cool weekend. Saturday was spent with the wifey at Megamall. After submitting our visa requirements for our Planned Big Trip in April we considered watching Glass but changed our minds after reading negative online reviews. Instead we just loitered around the mall checking out comic shops and toy stores and the department store. For lunch we tried Sunnies Cafè and for merienda Zoo Cafè. Went home when our feet started to ache. Gone are the days when we can do this all day and still had the energy for hard drinks at night.

Sunday morning I went biking. Was 5 kms short of my 30-km target but what the hell. Weeks of physical inactivity have turned my body soft. Ugh.
